Who else wants to be daring as Apple's Steve Jobs

Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious.

You can’t predict what work will get popular like crazy and what work is going to wither away unnoticed. So isn’t it a smarter approach to work thoroughly and then be brave enough to go ahead with its release? Apple's Steve Jobs said, “Real artists ship.”

We can find the wisdom of this sentiment in the works of Michael Angelo. Angelo composed hundreds of paintings of which only a handful earned great popularity. It was those few paintings that forced Angelo rise to those meteoric heights.

There’re folks who want to write their dream book or blog, and they even make efforts in that direction: Gathering relevant data and sifting through the pile of technical details.

But when it comes to actually organising all that information and keeping it forth for public scrutiny?

They invent clever excuses to put it off.

Having wandered in the same territories, I know that these excuses are actually provoked by the fear of facing criticism.

On these lines Seth Godin said that there’s no such thing as writer’s block. According to him, when one says that he is going through writer’s block, he means that he is scared of producing bad writing.

He can be scared to see how sloppy work he has done, and similarly he also may harbour the same fear on the part of his readers.

Due to this fear he procrastinates. But the truth is that no matter how diligently you work, you still will run the risk of failing or getting criticised.

Therefore a wiser and braver approach is to work as hard as you can and then go ahead with the release.

There will be folks to appreciate and condemn your work. But because of the fear of your work courting condemnation, you can’t upset the folks who are going to be benefitted by your work – who will be glad that you work saw the light of the day.

To tell you a secret, you’re reading this post because it’s inspired by the idea of just shipping or releasing the work.

Can I say something politically incorrect?

Well, the cold truth is that I’m scared of publishing posts online, but an artist or a worker ought to have the spine to put his work in open.

Thus getting out of my comfort area might help someone and offer me the fruit of satisfaction in return.
