A truly eyewatering advice from Lord Buddha for joy

“Your worst enemy cannot harm you As much as your own thoughts, unguarded. But once mastered, No one can help you as much, Not even your father or your mother.”

Lord Buddha

A simple thing that can turn us highly productive is that we must train ourselves to guard our thoughts.

If every moment we’re guarding our thoughts optimally, if every moment we’re true in doing justice with our cognitive capabilities and blessings, the success we dream about isn’t going to evade us for that long.

The problem with us is that we’re lazy, rest-loving folks, and doing justice with our blessings is no easy feat.

This is because we have entangled ourselves in bad, unproductive thoughts, and therefore we find ourselves backing out when it comes to using our blessings optimally.

The ugly truth is that we have chained ourselves in clutter and frivolity:

  • The clothes we want to wear at the party
  • Why is she hanging around with that guy so often…is there a romantic story brewing up?
  • He never clicks Like on my photos – is he jealous of me?

And it might take time before we free ourselves from such baseless thoughts and reclaim the clarity we’re naturally blessed with.

We need to rise up from our current state if we do want to utilise our finite attention at just the right places.

And if we want to write (or do any other work) with clarity, we need to be clear in all our thoughts.

The more clear-headed we’re in our mind, the clearer we’ll be in our day to day work and affairs.

We need to have lots and lots of free space in our mind.

We’re not required to be in any hurry.

Eminent personalities are generally cool and unhurried.

They rarely get irritated or panicked.

When they do something, they do it with their full concentration.

When they meet someone, they pay him their complete attention.

They know when to slip in calm and peaceful breaks despite the high rush that surrounds them.

And a reason behind this is that they don’t corrupt their mind with gossip and nonsense.

No secret, I want to be like such men.

Time is scarce, no doubt, but if still you want to use it optimally, you need to be calm by purging your mind of clutter, go slow, and work as per your capabilities.

It makes no sense to scamper around in different directions and try covering lots and lots of work without shedding any particular task your complete concentration – and consequently gettingE little and low-quality work done.

A few minutes of meditation (guarding our thoughts) every day can offer us eyewatering joys.

Yes.
