Can you work with 100% alertness every second you work?

Mark my word…Your productivity would shoot up and go off the ceiling.

You know that life will become a lovely, thrilling dream then.

But is it possible? Do humans with the same flesh and blood ever manage to do it?

Yes and yes.

Armies posted at high risk areas do it.

The tiny minority of the best, who know how to make things happen and who are habitual of grabbing it – the achievers – do it.

Unfortunately, the rest (the vast mediocrity) don’t do it, because they choose not to.

And if we refuse to settle with the rest, we too can work with the best of our potential – operating with 100% energy every single second while we work.

Remember, those army men, those successful entrepreneurs, those wildly prolific writers aren’t from Mars.

Since we too have the same blood and bones and flesh, it clarifies that we too have the energy to work and perform with our 100% alertness each very second, but we have the lazy habit of slipping into restful lifestyle.

Just think that When we’re under any pressure, say while we’re taking our exam or when we’re escaping a raging fire, we surprise ourselves by doing deeds in a way we had never expected to.

Don’t in such situations we surprise ourselves by our heroism?

True, there also are instances where due to mounting pressure we flounder, but more often than not this pressure works in our favour.

This is what’s called performing with our 100% ability or alertness.

And if success is our goal, we can’t reach it by executing half-hearted efforts or by working to the best of our abilities rarely, and then falling back to the same laid-back attitude.

The cold truth that applies on most folks is that generally we choose to work with 30% alertness or 50% alertness, and sometimes the level goes lower and higher than this.

William James, considered to be the father of modern psychology said, “Compared with what we ought to be, we are only half awake. We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources. Stating the thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits. He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use.”

That sounds astounding, but how can we stir ourselves for the challenge?

First and foremost, we must accept the truth that we’re not doing justice with our blessings and energy. Confessing the bitter truth that we’re not performing as per our potential is going to encourage us to work harder – as per our real potential.

(Acceptance precedes success.)

Additionally, we can ask ourselves the following questions during several times in the day:

  • Am I performing in the best way I can?
  • Am I really doing justice with my blessings?
  • If not, what can I instantly do to increase my performance?
  • What thoughts (or activities) I need to cut off to perform in accordance to my pure energy?

Such questions, though tough in nature, encourage us to work better.

What benefits it would fetch us?

The answer is simple and clear. If we begin to work as per our 100% ability, the success that appears far off, is going to come incredibly closer.

The harder we try, the easier it would become for us to perform with the same level of alertness. It would result in making the present tough tasks easier for us and the tasks undoable for us today doable in future.

And life then would become a lovely dream!
