The Good and the Bad News About Your Progress

You know what’s good for your growth, and you know what’s holding you back. Yet, you often look the other way.

Sure, you’ve made some progress and achieved a few milestones, but most of those accomplishments came from the progressive steps you’ve taken.

And deep down, you probably know that if you’d taken even more of those steps, you’d be in a much better place today.

Sound familiar?

If so, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get real with yourself. Ask yourself these tough questions—your answers could ignite the change you need:

  1. What foolish habits or behaviours am I engaging in that are holding me back?
  2. How can I eliminate them?
  3. What obstacles are in the way of eliminating these barriers?
  4. What small action can I take today to start moving in the right direction?

Take some time to sit down in a quiet space, away from distractions. Switch off your phone and let those around you know you need some time to reflect.

Then, get to work answering these questions honestly. By the end of the exercise, you’ll have a clearer roadmap for your next steps.

Because the scathing truth?

Consuming self-help content is fine, but there’s a danger: it can become an excuse for not taking action. At some point, reading articles, watching videos, and listening to podcasts about personal growth can actually hold you back from doing the real work.

When we binge on content about productivity but don’t implement any of it, we’re fooling ourselves.

So, here’s a challenge: stop reading — yes, even this blog. Don’t scroll to the next article. Instead, grab a pen, paper, or your phone and start answering the questions above. Record your answers. Speak them aloud into your phone’s voice recorder. No second-guessing. No hesitations.

Just honest answers.

Once more, here are those important questions:

  1. What foolish habits or behaviours am I engaging in that are holding me back?
  2. How can I eliminate them?
  3. What obstacles are in the way of eliminating these barriers?
  4. What small action can I take today to start moving in the right direction?

Give it a shot. This could very well be the turning point you’ve been waiting for.
